English Bulldog Rescue
As an English Bulldog owner, I find it hard to believe that these amazing, loving animals ever could find themselves in a situation where they need to be rescued. They are a gentle and emotionally intelligent breed who deeply bond with their owners, friends and families. Unfortunately, the sad reality is that many of these animals do need to be rescued. They are abandoned, abused, lost or treated like short-term material possessions instead of living beings with emotions and needs. I just cannot even begin the fathom the torment these poor animals have been through. We need to help find each of them all the loving homes and companions the so deserve.
Rescues are safe havens! We salute all the caring English Bulldog rescues for their endless passion and work. The rescuers are an elite kind of people that dedicate their lives to helping these animals in their time of need. Rescuers take in these animals, take great care of them, provide necessary medical attention and provide much needed love and the ever so important bridge to find their new permanent home.
To help these deserving English Bulldogs find a safe and loving home, we have created this English Bulldog Directory. If you are an English bulldog rescuer and would like to be added to our directory, please contact us.
We have recently added a separate directory for French Bulldog Rescue.

Bulldog Breeds
Before getting my bulldog, I did a ton of research online to gain a better understanding of the various breeds. I quickly found that information on bulldog breeds to be disparate and spread out over many different websites and articles. I have consolidated the basic information on the different bulldog breeds so you can quickly see the key differences between the key types of bulldog breeds. The breeds of bulldogs range from bulldog mix breeds, large bulldog breeds, miniature bulldog breeds to rare bulldog breeds. We have also included some fun pictures, videos and other fun bulldog stuff for enjoyment.
List of Bulldog Breeds:
English Bulldogs are medium sized, short, stocky, wrinkly, and have a distinctive smashed in looking nose (like they ran real fast and head first straight into a brick wall). Historically, English Bulldogs were breed to fight bulls. They have very strong jaws and flexible back leg joints for this purpose. Today’s English Bulldog mix breeds are great loyal companion dogs but can be stubborn and they are not athletic (exercise minimalists like myself). If you are interested in rescuing one of these types of dogs, please visit our English Bulldog Rescue directory.

French bulldogs are similar looking to English bulldogs but have larger distinctive ears. They are affectionate, good companion dogs, and appear to have less health issues that English breeds. One of the more popular French Bulldog mix breeds are the Blue French Bulldog that have a soft grayish blue looking coat. If you are interested in rescuing one of these types of dogs, please visit our French Bulldog Rescue directory.

The Australian Bulldog also known as the Aussie Bulldog is a more recent breed of bulldog. They have been bred to look like a bulldog but with the goal to reduce typical health issues bulldogs experience such as hip dysplasia.

Miniature Bulldogs also known as mini bulldogs or teacup bulldogs are typically a smaller bulldog breeds stemming from a version of either English or French bulldogs. These small dog breeds are created by mixing bulldogs with Pugs, Boston Terriers, or French Bulldogs. They come in both Mini French Bulldog and Mini English Bulldog breeds and are adorable little guys as you can see in the photographs and videos below.

Victorian Bulldogs
Victorian Bulldogs are a larger version of English bulldogs that tend to be more athletic. They have both longer legs and muzzle while still maintaining the bulldog family look. These big boned dogs may be protective.

American bulldogs are much more active, leaner, and taller version of the English bulldogs. They are both working dogs and house pets. They are very active and need lots of exercise so not necessary a good breed for apartments.

Bulldog Food
Although your pet bulldog is an integral part of your family, it is imperative never to feed them human food. Always consult with your veterinarian on the proper food diet for your precious bulldog.
Bulldogs have a passion for food. Bulldogs are inclined to be more passionate about eating since they have a combination of less taste buds but greater sense of smell compared to humans. Therefore, you have to properly manage their food quality and intake.
We researched bulldogs and bulldog foods and found that it is recommended that you feed them twice daily and at a consistent time. The amount you feed depends upon your dog’s age, weight, health, and activity level. Their food should be specially formulated for Bulldog breeds to help maintain their health and should be consistent. Bulldog food should contain the proper vitamins for health, meat protein & fiber for digestion and Omega 3 to promote healthy coat along with their adorable wrinkly skin. A solid dry dog food is better for their teeth than a soft, wet dog food. If you are already a bulldog owner, then you know that bulldogs can be very gassy so finding the right bulldog food formula can be good for both your dog and your household. Our English bulldog had a very sensitive stomach so we switched to a specially formulated English bulldog food from a brand called Royal Canin and it worked so much better than all the other dog foods we tried. Our friends with French Bulldogs had a similar experience after switching to Royal Canin bulldog food.
Bulldog puppies require a different formula for their specific needs. Royal Canin also created a special formula for bulldog puppy food. This formula is designed to aid the puppy’s natural immune system with both Vitamins E and C, digestive health, joint support, and even has a custom wave-shape to the kibble to make it easier for bulldog puppies to grasp and chew since their lower jaw typically extends out in front of their upper jaw.
Other brands we see that are rated well for best bulldog food are Natural Balance and Instinct Grain Free. I personally have not tried these brands yet so I do not have any personal insight.
Bulldogs should always have a fresh source of water. They require a larger opening type bowl with a no tip or slide type of design since bulldogs have large jaws and tend to be a bit clumsy at times. We recommend that you stay away from plastic bowls since they become scratched and then harbor bacteria within the scratches and some plastics may emit chemicals. Be careful with ceramic or stoneware dog bowls in that they can contain a trace of lead in the glaze. Stainless steel dog bowls seem to be the best choice these days since they are durable, and do not rust.
Remember; always consult with your veterinarian on the proper food diet for your precious bulldog family member.
We hope that you found this back-to-the-basics type article useful and informative. To learn more about bulldogs, please also visit our English Bulldog Rescue, French Bulldog Rescue, and Bulldog Breeds areas of our website.
